Fall of the House of Usher

The countenance of the house had a very mysterious yet melancholy look to it. It was on the dark side and was not exactly all sunshine and rainbows. The narrator in the story did everything he could to try enlighten Roderick. He would play music, sing songs, and tell him stories. Ushers sister was killed by an unknown illness. Scared to death he buries her body under the house, not wanting doctors to examine it. One night while reading a story the story sounds come to life. Usher's sister reappears at the front door dressed in white robes. Shocked, appalled and mystified by the impetuous and impromptu reappearance of sister he dies and along with his life the house falls to the ground. My favorite quote is toward the end where Roderick is questioning himself. "Have I not heard her footstep on the stair?" Along with many other questions he asks it seems as though he is going mad. He cannot gain composure and feels he is truly going mad as his dead sister has resurrected .
