Ethan Frome

My book is called Ethan Frome by Edith Wharton and it was published in 1911 by Scribner's. The purpose of this book is that there is a narrator and he tells us about Ethan Frome and how they meet and become more familiar with each other. The first sentence says, "The village lay under two feet of snow, with drifts at the windy corners." This is a good narrative hook because it gives a good visual of where you are and there are a lot of interesting things that can go wrong in a little village in the middle of winter. So far, I think that my book is pretty good because it is about a man who is lost and has to stay in someone else's house and his daily life gets very different than it used to be.

deserted- untenanted; without inhabitants; abandoned
declivity- a slope, hill; sloping downward
fascinator- a scarf of crochet work, lace, or the like, narrowing toward the end, worn as a head covering by women
instruments- a mechanical tool or instrument, especially one used for delicate or precision work
bundles- several subjects or a quantity of material gathered or bound together
