The author begins the first few chapters talking about Pele's evolution through his journey to the professional level. As you can imagine his journey to the player that he was known as was not easy. Pele has to go through many hardships including money, his mothers decision, and being homesick. Relating to the first chapter, "I only wanted to be my father", Pele truly only wants to be his father and that helps motivate him and provoke his motivation. When he gets invited to play for his first team he is offered more money then he would get in four months with his other jobs. Pele is also not used to some of the benefits of being a professional, for example, the fields. Pele was only used to playing on dirt and hard ground. When he gets to play in the stadium he is not used to the grass and how slow the ball moves compared to the hard surface.
