The Black Cat
The narrator of the book absolutely detested the cats. There were two cats in the book, the first one was the one he loved for many years and was so fond of until he went mad and resolved to kill the cat. The second cat reminded him of Pluto, the first one, and eventually tension grew until he wanted to physically abuse the cat but refrained from doing so as long as he could. My favorite quote was " I had walled up the monster up within the tomb." I liked it because he thought he could get rid of everything and put it in the past but it haunted him. The surprise ending is that after he had buried his wife in the wall the police found her.
