Fall of the House of Usher
In the Fall of the House of Usher is a very dark and gloomy story. Everything in this story made me think of dirty, dark and nasty things. Roderick was a very depressed man and his friend the narrator tried to cheer him up. Occasionally, Roderick read stories or play is guitar to the narrator. The house in the story seemed very dark a gloomy from the outside description and the inside. When reading Edgar's description of this house it put a very clear image in my mind. Roderick's sister died from a disease and was buried in a tomb under the house. When reading a story Roderick had a thought that he buried his sister alive. He then sees his sister covered in blood and in all white robes. She comes and attacks him in the house and while this is happening the narrator gets out of the house. When the narrator get out of the house the house collapses. My favorite quotes are when the Edgar makes Roderick hear things such as "Have I not heard her footstep on the stair?" I think that it is very clever how Poe puts in these thoughts into Roderick's head and it adds emphasis to Roderick's insanity.
