MS Found in a Bottle

IN the story there was a ship that was deluged by a great whirlpool. The narrator ascertains that he and one other are the only people still living. They then are thrust into a great tempest. The device of the message in the bottle is good because it is like a miracle because it has not been smashed or flooded. The message in the bottle can keep a reader reading because they are completely randomly found and they can say anything.
"we are plunging madly within the grasp of the whirlpool-- and amid a roaring, and bellowing, and thundering of ocean and tempest, the ship is quivering-- oh God!-- and going down!"
