The narrator came home one day after having a debauch on alcohol. The narrator got angry when the cat vexed him and decided stabbed the cat's eye out. He felt remorse but then felt perverseness and indulged into hanging the cat from a tree killing it. There were two cats. After the narrator hung the first cat he decided to buy another black cat which had a missing eye and some white fur on its chest. The surprise ending is that the narrator confesses and when the cops finds his wife's corpse they also see the second black cat on top of her head. This is shocking because the black cat was nowhere to be seen and the narrator didn't put the cat inside the brick wall with his wife. My favorite quote was in the end when the narrator said "I may say an excellently well constructed house. These walls are you going gentlemen? These walls are solidly put together.". I liked this quote because the narrator basically gave in and confessed for what he did.
