THE BLACK CAT

This story of the "spirit of PERVERSENESS" describes what crime? Are there two cats or one? What is the surprise ending? Add a quote that you found memorable. Explain its attraction.

This story of perverseness describes the crime of the hanging of the cat because the narrator knows that the cat loved him and did nothing to deserve this treatment. The spirit of Perverseness is shown because even when he knew the cat did not deserve this, he still deliberately commits this crime because of what he felt like doing regardless of any morals. The surprise ending is that the cat that was missing was hiding with the body of the wife of the narrator who killed her. The cat then reveals the body by letting out a small cry behind the plaster wall. It was also very ironic because the white spot on the cat resembled the gallows, the place where people are hung. The fate his cat suffered by hanging will also be the same fate the narrator will go through. One quote that caught my attention was: "I may say an excellently well constructed house. These walls are you going gentlemen? These walls are solidly put together.". This quote showed how arrogant the narrator became. This gave me a feeling that his arrogance would be greatly changed soon. The surprise ending showed that arrogance is never good.
