MS. FOUND IN A BOTTLE

Describe the disasters recounted in the story. Why is the device of reading a message in a bottle popular? Why is this message successful in keeping the reader's interest? Add your favorite quote.

1) There were a myriad of disasters that occurred throughout the story. Some of the disasters, like the simoon that capsized the narrator's ship, made the narrator the only survivor. A tempest later hits the ship, but, the narrator, seeing another ship enshrouded in black, is forcefully thrown out of the ship onto an "unknown vessel". A whirlpool, that stagnates and brings the ship to a precipitous drop into it, ensues. Reading this story from a message in a bottle is quite singular and because of this singularity, is popular. The message was placed in a bottle and thrown in the ocean because the narrator does not believe he will be able to share his story with the world. However, he still tries. My favorite quote is proof of the narrator's willingness to share his story in any way possible. "I may not find an opportunity of transmitting it to the world, but I will not fail to make the endeavor", shows the narrator's determination to have the world hear his story.
