The Black Cat
The narrator returned home one day after a debauch on alcohol. he got very mad when the cat vexed him and decided to stab the cats eye out. He even had the audacity to kill his wife by the anger ha showed. The narrator felt very remorseful but soon felt perverseness and indulged into hanging the cat from a tree killing it. He refrained for a long time from harming anyone, but eventually he caved in. The alcohol compelled him do both or these horrific things. When reading, you get the feel that the book book absolutely detested the cats. The story ends in a very shocking way. The police arrive to search for his missing wife and hear a cat in the wall. The second cat was just a chimera. This is significant because this is the same wall that he had hidden his wife behind. The cat was found on his wife's head. The most memorable quote is "Once again I breathed as a freeman." This is because he is not a freeman, he was trapped by his guilt andremorse.
